1/4 or 1/2 driver? (Impact driver)

Im in the market for a portable impact driver. I saw it in use on a trail last weekend. I never thought about owning one but it makes changing tires a breeze.

Now all I have at home is a 1/4 hand tool with sockets etc.

Is there a benefit to the 1/2 driver? If I get the 1/4 I can re-use my existing sockets – or is that a bad idea? Will I be ruining my sockets?

1/4 will not have enough torque to do wheels.

Get a 1/2 and a set of sockets to compliment it.

As batterys wear down they will lose torque also making the need for more power important out in the bush.

Im not 4×4, and have an open diff. So im 4×1

Full custom stereo, onboard air compressor, train horns, spacer lift, 30 tires, optima yellow top, rear slider window & tailgate anti-theft mod, pop & lock, class 3 tow hitch, lights in bed, Ultra Gauge, Weather Tech mats, yellow fog lights, camper top, air lift rear airbags, rear diff breather mod, soon to be more…

Cool. Thanks. Wasnt sure if the More is Better would apply here.

This is the one Im gunning for:

DEWALT Bare-Tool DW059B 1/2 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench (Tool Only, No Battery)

I rotate the battery packs 2 with the impact in the box and one in the charger in the garage.

If i am going out on a trail trip I charge both before going to make sure I have them ready.

I also use 18 volt DeWalt tools at home so I have the extra batterys going for them as well.

Dude, if you only have a 1/4 drive ratchet and sockets you dont have much.

Tool up and go with a 1/2 drive rattle gun (impact driver).

Im in heavy construction and lately weve been using theimpact socketsfrom Harbor Freight and theyve been holding up.

Bona fide impact sockets are almost always6-pointand of high carbon steel. They are usually black in color and expensive except for the Harbor Freight (China) sockets mentioned above.

A rattle gun can destroy normal sockets especially if they are12 point.

I doubt you could even get a 1/4 inch drive to loosen your lug nuts at all. Why not save yourself the money and hassle of batteries and buy something like this

Youll never have to worry about having a dead battery on the trail, or have to switch out batterys every month or so.

I have a 1/4 and a 1/2 cordless impact. Go with the 1/2. The 1/4 works good for my wheelers and snow machines. It sometimes has some problems with the lug nuts on the wheelers. 1/2=no problems.

I wouldnt torque down with 1/4 on anything above 14mm. For lugs 1/2 cordless minimum.

Also, I would not suggest torquing down the nuts with any portable driver. I would be too paranoid that the torque setting might be off.

Did you read theAmazonreviews on that 12v wrench you linked? That things a piece of junk!

do impact drivers have a torque setting on them?

Do not rely on a rattle gun for the torque setting.

Run the nuts in wth them snug and use a real torque wrench to set the final load.

do impact drivers have a torque setting on them?

Some do, but they tend not to be real reliable and its best to use a torque wrench to set the final torque, even if using power tools to spin a bolt or nut into place.

Did you read theAmazonreviews on that 12v wrench you linked? That things a piece of junk!

May be junk compared to $100+ tools, but sure comes in handy when youre tired and need to spin off lugs in a pinch with the front wheel off the ground and spinning freely.

I have a harbor freight version that I payed $30 for. It does the job.

Never, ever rely on a rattle gun (impact driver) for final torque on a mission critical part.

Whether its a lug nut or a tilt-up brace, always use a torque wrench to dial in final torque.

Largest Tires to clear on 09 2WD Base Reg. Cab

Discussion in4 Cylinderstarted bymotoretroJun 6, 2010.

09 Reg, Cab, 2.7 Four Cyl. manual trans

Id like to put some larger rubber on my 09 2WD Base 5 lug Regular Cab and perhaps some different wheels. I really dont want to lift it, just bigger tires to fill the wheel wells and add a little more ground clearance. Im thinking 235/75/15 or maybe a 16 wheel. Id like to run a 7 wide wheel, will it clear the caliper on these trucks? Im a old guy and would like a wheel which looks old school and sits under the fender w/o excess stick-out. Are the factory wheels hub-centric? An alloy wheel would be great as long as its something I can run year around, so clear-coat might be a given.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

K & N Intake, Alpine S-10 Shallow Mount Sub, Alpine CDA-9884 H/U, Alpine Type-R Components, Alpine Amp, 3.73 rear end, Welded on Muffler, Bug Deflector, Rain Guards, LCE Short Shifter,

I am currently running on my 08 base 5 lug 4 cyl. 235/75/15 And i have no issues with fitment. The tires fit on a stock rim and they look good and add about an 1 of clearance from the ground. The only issue i had was power was reduced for a i do a lot of highway driving, but in the city and didnt change much. I am running BFG All Terrains and they are great

, I plan on re-gearing to a 3.73 or 4.11 to gain the power back once tires are switched. Stock wheels are 6 between beads, right?

Yeah, i dont know what bead spacing is sorry but if you mean the width of the wheel, yeah its 6. The tire recommends a 6.5 minimum width wheel, but i have had them on for over 30k and no issues, the place i had them installed also said this wont be an issue. I re-geared my truck to a 3.73 and it is a little better than it was stock. I am averaging aroung 23-25 mpg, so it wasnt that much of a loss. the only issue is your speedo and odometer are f*ed lol. You just have to find that out and always keep it in mind. When the speedo says 90 im really at 80, and thats about 3ooo rpm, which isnt bad doesnt hit the powerband yet unless you step on the gas hard. If you plan on re-gearing i would like for a used third member from like a pre-runner or sumthing, thats where i got mine off of, just make sure it doesnt have an e-locker. Anyways hope this helps.

09 Reg, Cab, 2.7 Four Cyl. manual trans

Thanks for the info and pics guys. Not sure how things are measured now although when buying wheels back in the day we considered the distance between the beads the wheel width. I checked out some wheels sites and a few are measuring edge to edge so maybe things have changed. Ill have to look into this further.

Cappy, did you get your rear from a V6 Pre-Runner, I think the 4 cylinder Pre-Runners came with 4.11s

Ive got 265/75/16s Kumho on mine and then fit well. Look better then the stock tires also.

K & N Intake, Alpine S-10 Shallow Mount Sub, Alpine CDA-9884 H/U, Alpine Type-R Components, Alpine Amp, 3.73 rear end, Welded on Muffler, Bug Deflector, Rain Guards, LCE Short Shifter,

Thats the wonderful thing with these trucks theres about 5 different variations of the third members. I got mine off of a 6 cyl. pre runner their third memebr is a 3.73, if you get it off of a 4 cyl. pre-runner it will be 4.11, im not sure if the tranny will affect that setup it may. So if i decide to regear again i will get it off a 4 cyl. pre-runner. Funny isnt it?

I put some 235/75 R15sGoodyearWranglers on my 06 2WD. There is plenty of clearance for a larger tire but I dont think any bigger of a tire would fit on the rims. I havent noticed any loss in power but I installed a CAI around the same time. Gas mileage wasnt affected as I got 25 MPG on my last fillup.

I wouldnt go with a 16 wheel mainly because the cost of tires is going to go up dramactically. Stick with the 15 stock wheels and go with the 235/75 R15s. If you want something nicer looking than the stock wheels take a look at these:

I plan on buying a set as soon as I have some extra cash.

I may have lost a little bit of power on the Interstate but not enough to matter.

Secondary air filter removed, elbow mod, BFG T/A KO (31×10.5R15), 15 American Racing Mojaves, BHLM, Dome Light MOD (Blue), Pioneer headunit, Sockmonkey TACOMA Decals, Readylift 5-lug SST, Rear Shocks – Bilstein TRD, Dynomax Super Turbo 17748, DDM Slim Ballast HID Kit H4 Hi/Lo -35W 6000K in headlights, Apexcone Raptor HID Kit H3 – 35W 6000K in Hella 500s, aFe CAI 51-10762, WeatherTech Floorliner, 200W Smart AC Inverter

the largest tire I had before the lift and on stock steelies was 30×9.5

09 Reg, Cab, 2.7 Four Cyl. manual trans

By sticking with the stock 15 rims w/ 235/75 or 235/70 tires the tires should still stay inside the fenders.

i put 30s on after market wheels with no lift

09 Reg, Cab, 2.7 Four Cyl. manual trans

Which aftermarket wheels did you go with? size?

i put 30s on after market wheels with no lift

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.

Ive got 265/75/16s Kumho on mine and then fit well. Look better then the stock tires also.

Hes a 5 lugger. Those wont come close to fitting.

I went with 235/70/15s also…GoodyearWranglers. Looks great..fills out the wheel well nice and even looks good around stock wheel. However, does anyone know if my odometer will be a little off now and how I would fix that if so?

Which aftermarket wheels did you go with? size?

cragar soft 8s. 15×8 with 4.5 of backspacing

Check your odometer with mile markers on the interstate or with a GPS. Do several tests at say 10 miles with different sets of mile markers to verify the results.

There are devices that you can add to correct the odometer but usually just a correction percentage will do.

Using the tire guide tutorial on this site…it says the base tire to the 235/75/15 is about 7% diff. Question: If the speedometer is 7% more is that an exact correlation to the odometer?

09 Reg, Cab, 2.7 Four Cyl. manual trans

My guess is it will read about 4 MPH high since stock speedo tends to read 3 MPH low…..

If youre getting the Metric Gear Wrench stubby set, it is sorely lacking in two key sizes that Toyota uses a LOT. The 17 mm and 19 mm.

I got the SAE version as well. The 3/4 closely approximates 19 mm. The 11/16 is about 17.46 mm

CX15 equipped with three deck rings

CX15 with three standard deck rings

The CX15 is equipped with three deck rings, which are welded to the underside of the deck, just inside the outer circumference of blade travel. The deck rings help to limit the upward deflection of blades when the blades encounter immovable objects, such as stumps and set-fast rocks.

The HX15, CX15, HX20, and CX20 come standard with an industry-exclusive hydraulically-operatedheight levelingsystem with a swing-away parking stand that makes raising and lowering the cuttereasy and safe. In addition, a manual-implement jack is in base equipment, so hitch leveling can also be adjusted without hydraulics. With this addition, the cutter will remain in the same position for long periods of time.

Please refer to the following videolink for information regarding the CX15 Rotary Cutter.

CX Series Flex-Wing Rotary Cutters feature ground-control suspension, which is unique in the industry.

This suspension includes a heavy-duty axle with six wheels (five-wheel and three-wheel assemblies for the CX15 3.1-m [10-ft] model) and air springs with shock absorbers on all four-wheel assemblies.

Shock absorbers provide a smooth ride for road travel and for hard and rough pastures, roadsides, etc. The shock-cushioning ability of the CX suspension is in a class by itself and contributes greatly to long, trouble-free operation of the machine.

Center-section air springs typically carry 90 psi of air pressure. Wing-section air springs typically carry 60 psi of air pressure.

All of the CX models are also available with springs and shock absorbers.

Center sections and wing sections are connected via 2.5-cm (1-in.) diameter continuous hinge pins. Hinge bushings are constructed of 15.2-cm (6-in.) long forged-steel segments and are greaseable to prevent hinge pins from seizing:

The HX15 useseight hinge bushing segments per side.

The CX15 uses 12 hinge bushing segments per side, for a continuous hinge (front to back), providing superior resistance to the wear and tear caused by commercial usage.

John Deere rotary cutters lead the way with innovative design, superior performance, and proven durability. Valuable features are included such as the Double-Decker™ design and Max Flow cutting chamber, which prevent water and debris from accumulating on the smooth, dome-shaped top deck while the flat bottom deck absorbs the punishment from rocks and stumps.

The top deck stays smooth – no dents, no dings, no holes. The internal supports sandwiched between the top and bottom decks are key to the smooth and structure-free Max Flow cutting chamber, while at the same time provide added strength and durability.

To help promote safe operation, John Deere rotary cutters are equipped with front and rear safety-chain shields. John Deere rotary cutters continue to advance in value with larger, more powerful gearboxes, redesigned blade holders, and updatedconstant-velocity (CV)drivelines (special to the flex-wing models).

Here are situations when a rotary cutter is needed:

Clipping pastures encourages grass growth, optimizing on valuable pasture acreage.

Cutting grass and stocks helps control insects.

Routine cutting keeps weeds from reseeding.

It isthe most cost efficient way to cut roadsides, parks, cemeteries, airport fields, hydro, gas, and telephone easements, and all other types of open properties.

Cutting grass waterways encourages root development and helps prevent erosion.

Knocking down stalks is essential in no-till and minimum-till fields.

Shredding stalks such as cotton, corn, and milo speeds up decomposition.

Use a rotary cutterto control undergrowth and grass in orchards, vineyards, and groves.

John Deere rotary cutters are available in three duty-level categories, three different spindle configurations, four hitch types, and three flex-wing sizes.

MX models are available in 1.5-m (5-ft), 1.8-m (6-ft), 2.1-m (7-ft), 2.5-m (8-ft), 3.2-m (10-ft), and 4.6-m (15-ft) cut widths.

This duty-level category cuts brush up to 50.8 mm (2 in.) in diameter.

HX models areavailable in 3.2-m (10-ft), 4.2-m (14-ft), 4.6-m (15-ft), and 6.1-m (20-ft) cut widths.

HX6is available in 1.8-m (6-ft) and the HX7 isavailable in 2.1-m (7-ft) cut widths; they cut brush up to 101.6 mm (4 in.) in diameter.

CX models areavailable in 3.2-m (10-ft), 4.6-m (15-ft), and 6.1-m (20 ft) cut widths; they cut brush 101.6 mm (4 in.) in diameter.

NOTE: CX models are heavier built to cut at a 101.6mm (4 in.) capacity level more frequently and for longer durations.

The CX15 is available as a 3.1-m (10-ft) Flex-Wing Rotary Cutter with a 15.2-cm (6-in.) blade overlap by removing the left wing and adding a weight box.

The weight box hinges to the center deck and bolts to the anchor bracket in place of the left wing.

Weight box is shipped factory-filled with concrete.

Gearcases are provided with oil-level dipsticks.

Spring-loaded check-valve vents are provided to release any air pressure that might build up within the gearcase and to keep the rotary cutter deck free of oil that would otherwise spew out of permanently open vents.

All pivoting points that would benefit from greasing are provided with grease zerks. Wing hinges in particular are provided with individual grease zerks. It is important to note that these points require greasing infrequently; lubrication is for protection against seizing, not wear.

A transport lock flips over the lift cylinder for backup to the hydraulics when transporting or servicing the cutter.

A wing lock is provided for additional safety during transporting or servicing. Additionally, the wing locks are spring-loaded so they can unfold against gravity on slopes up tofive degrees.

Category 5, star-profile wing drivelines

Smooth, dome-shaped Double-Decker™design

Air bag and shock-absorber suspension

Continuous, greaseable forged-wing hinges

Hitches have a narrow profile and are 57.2 cm (22.5 in.) wide to allow a very tight turning radius, even when the tractor is equipped with dual wheels.

Lock-slide collar, included on all John Deeres drivelines, helps the attachment to the tractor using your hands on the driveline and not on the collar.

Professional seals on thecross kits allow for a lubrication interval up to 50 hours.

Grease zerks in the cap cross kits provide easy access for field lubrication.

Large, dimpled floating disks reduce wear and improve the grease retention.

Precision spherical ball-and-socket bearings distribute loading evenly and provide a long life and high performance.

A lightweight driveline with a lock-slide collar makes it fast and easy to attach.

Re-engineered gearcases and blade holders provide the following:

Five-year limited gearbox warranty provided on every John Deere rotary cutter

Five-year warranty on all flex-wing gearboxes

Five-year warranty on all rotary cutter gearboxes

John Deere is so confident in the reliability of the gearbox, the warranty has been extended. John Deere rotary cutters come with a 5-year limited gearbox warranty.

Kings, SCS Wheels and other mall crawling crap

( sorry) know this was not for me–but–I have same issue—- no RPMs when does it–throttle to floor and engine keeps running, but you all of a sudden go no where( mine is from stop signs turning right doing maybe 14 to 17 mph. ( I do not tromp- not going to) not how I drive. Had for 6 months, started doing it Sept– 6 times so far. Absolutely cannot duplicate it. Had 3 app with dealership to check codes–shows nothing they say. I ask 3 times for them to ck tranny fluid—setting there one time 3 hr 25 min. Have talked corp in Texas allot asking how to fix– she says never heard of it. Case means nothing if in accident!!

Texas-8003314331 ext 73858 Julie. Thought warranty meant they cared and tried a tiny bit==Nope. Lied to me 3 times saying trans fluid. Julie( Texas) found out talking to dealership where I bought– they never checked it. My 7th Toyota thinkin my last.Click to expand….

Keep in mind that our engines are only emulating atkinson cycle with VVT, more importantly they can switch between faux-atkinson cycle and regular otto cycle for when power is needed.

Ive had this happen to me turning left into traffic. Scared the tar out of me.

Now I use ECT or s-mode if I know its going to be tight.

Dealer after 3 times to get code readout–and say no codes thrown— on your own!!! Worthless. Would think warranty someone would try.

Took my mechanic–he drove several days–did not duplicate it ( other than few sec hesitating which I guess is normal on some) its dead in water thats worrysome. Got him to ck auto tranny fluid as I ask Dealership to do 3 times, was told ok— was 1/2 qt low!!!! Talked Texas again, they just say need a code thrown!!! No one cares. Looking on here, some do this even past 2 yrs at least—- guess not enough accidents or deaths yet.

Has anyone heard the term unintended acceleration. Toyota and other manufactures now program a throttle close if your foot is on the brake and you accelerate. This can occur more with left foot braking drivers who do not fully release brake pedal when accelerating from stop. Yes it is a scary situation if you are not ready for it to occur. If you want to test yours when safety allows do this: From a standing start release brake, accelerate, apply moderate brake pressure, and accelerate hard, rpms should fall abruptly. This is different from a stall test when vehicle is not moving and brake and accelerator are held and RPM climb to the stall speed of the torque converter. Hope this helps and you dont waste time at dealer for something that is normal.

I tried this few wks back to see if I could duplicate- did not do stall/ long hesitation- screen showing me what I was doing. I do not have foot on brake when leaving stop signs( 6 times). Its not normal). Loss power and you have to coast side of hwy.

Toyota running boards/Solid Fold 2.0/custom stickers/Anti-Dark LED light under hood/Derped grill/Scoop, etc.

There is a consistent thread here. So far 3 of us have had it happen while turning right from a stop sign.

No surge of the motor, nothing happens.Click to expand…I did a hard right turn in a parking lot 2 days after getting my truck and she died, like you say….

Dealer was NO help…. I checked tranny fluid and guess what..?? I was 1 1/2 liters down…..

The truck will NOT do that anymore cuz I filled that sucker up..!!

My theory is when a hard right turn happens…. the fluid moves left and the tranny is starved for juice…. so it just craps out till the juice comes back to the pick-up in the pan..!!

You guys might want to check the fluid level..!!

No argument here, just wondering; but if it was a transmission problem only, wouldnt the engine RPMs still climb – while youre sitting there not moving? I read the earlier posts and they said no engine response at all no RPM increase. Hard to grasp low ATF having an effect on engine speed (vehicle speed yes).

Im not really sure what actually happened as I floored the truck and turned right..!! All I remember is that the truck did not react the way I wanted it to…..(ie: GO….)… Im sure it was not the Nanny non-slip shit and auto ABS braking..! Dont know if the RPMs went up… it all happened so fast..! I really was NOT sitting still… I was moving slowly and cranked her to the right and floored her..!!

I believe I had her in ECT mode at the time as well… should NOT be any of the built-in nanny shit going on..!

BUT filling her up with fluid seemed to fix the issue..!

Seems those of us unlucky ones to have issue-== its same, when lose power–NO RPM,s–like old carburetor when it was plugged and getting no gas—-fuel filter plugged. Just going along and nothing.( Did not hear even engine running, so doubtful RPMs were up–stepped to floor and nothing, quiet-But Master Warning lite has come on 4 of the 6 times. Except the Tacomas are right turn or left from a stop. Thinking throttle not communicating computer. My 2014 is perfect-. The constant shifting and tiny bit of hesitating I am used to now( 7 months) of owning, as I seen on here it apparently is a trait of 2017. From a stop it shifts 8-9 times till mellowing out. BUT—since I finally got someone to check my auto fluid – 2 days ago-( dealer guess does not know how) and was 1/2 qt. low—-now shifts only 4 5 times—am fingers crossed it cures problem. Thank you guys on here–for that—who would of thought? As tranny does not slip–so never would of thought. I do NOT belive its the anti skid— dry pavement every time, just right turns from stopping—had a 2010 did the antiskid so bad at 500 Mi. threw me in other lane-the lite came on—-could never get in it–scariest ever. Really sure this issue diff. Glad I tried 4th time to get it checked—.

So glad for this site–to find out things—.

I know this is an old post, but Im also looking for the answer to this problem. I have a 2004, fuel injected 3.4 liter V6. Same symptoms, I usually loose power up shifting, but it can occur anytime, randomly. No codes, dealer could not find anything wrong as well as a private garage failed to diagnose. Im thinking it is some kind of fuel issue but randomly replacing things can get expensive. Its very annoying and dangerous. It doesnt do it so much driving around town, but really noticeable and more frequent on long trips with the cruise control engaged. The RPMs drop and it will coast for about a second, loosing about 3-4 MPH causing the cruise control to accelerate to make up for the speed loss. I found by dumb luck that non-ethanol gas helps, but does not totally eliminate the problem. Id welcome any suggestions. Thanks.

Fuel pump relay? Or fuel pump itself maybe?

I always thought relays just failed but my wifes Acura had an issue with a relay sticking open or close. Replaced it and no problems so far

Well, I know now it is not the fuel pump relay. I swapped it with the tail light relay and it still exhibits the same behavior. Im also starting to think the ethanol free gas idea is a red herring. Its curious that this does not start right away when you are driving the truck. It may take 30 minutes or more before the behavior first appears, which explains why garage technicians never experience the problem because their test drive is about 5 minutes long, but when it starts it can be as frequent as every 5-10 seconds. Drives the cruise control and me crazy. Maybe it is something that is temperature sensitive. Gets hot and starts acting up. I guess the next thing to consider is the fuel pump. However, the prospect of removing the fuel tank or the truck bed is not appealing. I wish something would just break. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I had a dodge with a fuel pump problem but it was pretty consistent. Pressure would dive when I tried to get on it. Never got to the stutter stage but it was like it just lost all its power when the rpms came up.

I put a schrader fitting on a fitting right where it went into the injector pump (diesel) and hooked a pressure gauge up to it. Then I routed the gauge so it just temporarily sat on my windshield and I drove it around. I ended up replacing the fuel pump. Not sure if thats an option for you but itd tell you if the pump is the problem.

Id also expect youd throw a code if the fuel was cutting out, at a minimum a lean code. Speaking of have you cleaned your MAF lately? Might be worth doing.

Im going to do both of those suggestions before tackling the fuel pump. Im also suspicious of the fuel pressure regulator. If I can find it. Im guessing it is in the hardest to access place on the back of fuel rail.

Minimum credit score for Toyota finance?

Discussion in2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)started byaimcatApr 15, 2011.

My dealership is trying to save me money by possibly getting approved through Toyota finance….does anyone know what the minimum credit requirements are? Honestly our credit is not good right now and need to know before we apply….thanks!

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.

Min. score for the advertised promotions is between 720 and 740

yikes honestly ours is 560-600 so we are probably a no right? Or could we get it just not that rate?

Try to get pre-approved at a local credit union and use that quote to go to your dealer.

Dont forget: dealer interest rates are negotiable. There is a profit margin built into the rates. Its not a 1:1 from the finance company, probably even when using TFS

we tried our credit unions and its a no go….right now we are approved through capital one for 10.34 for 6 years….good bad? anyone delt with them before? good or bad?

Pretty high interest rate in my opinion, maybe wait and build some more credit that way it doesnt kill you in the long run.

Is it realistic to say that we will refinance when our credit is better? Get a better interest rate and payment?

Not really. There is no market to refinance car purchases. Even if you will find someone who can do it I doubt youll get a better rate. All it will do for you, at the most, is take your current loan balance and spread it out over 5 more years, effectively lowering your monthly payment by $20-$50 depending how far into the loan you are.

Seriously, walk into a local credit union office and have them make a car loan offer to you. Youd be surprised. Then you can use them to finish the purchase if you dont get a better offer from the dealership.

Ive tried my credit unions and they base it on slow pays or credit score and they tell me no….Our debt to income is great and we have things paid on time and up to date its just past mistakes we are still paying for.

your loan based on your credit score? Thats not very encouraging.

I say let the dealer give it a try. Theyll get you approved; thats almost a guarantee nowadays. The question is whether youre willing to pay the price of the loan.

My CU loaned me money at 4.25%, couldve gotten 3.99% if it had of had less than 30,000 miles (had 32,000), this for 48 months.

Well we have the current loan worked out so we have it but I just dont want the dealer trying all the finance crap that they try….you think the dealer can get a better rate than what we are approved for?

t4daddy – but how is your credit score?

With your lower score, id take the rate you got. You can refi in about a year as long as your score goes up and drop it down. Id only ask if there is a fee to re fi. Youll have to pay a higher rate for a year and youll be out a couple hundred bucks, but youll have the truck you want and when you refi it will drop as long as you keep your stuff at 35%. ex. you have a card for 1000 limit, keep the balance around 350. It will pull your score up fast.

opinions are like assholes; everyones got one.

In my case, I got 2.9% from my local CU in January and at signing Toyo asked me what my rate was and said they could have given me 2.3%.

In your case, I would say to pay down your debt and fix your credit score before making any significant purchases.

There are a lot of people that will loan you the money but the lower your credit score the higher the interest rate will be. I dont know what the baseline is for Toyota Credit but very careful of who you borrow the money from. You may get a better deal if you put down a larger down payment. There are companies that will refinance car loans if you have a history of paying it on time for a couple of years but by then you will have paid most of the interest on the loan anyway.

Ive been calling other credit unions this morning they are all telling me they would approve but rate would be 12-13% which is higher than current rate.

credit score is not the only thing that is considered when financing institutions are thinking about giving you a loan. they also take into consideration, your debt to income ration and history. TMCC (toyota motor credit) would rather have someone with a 650 score, a paid auto loan, and 50% available credit on a $10k credit card rather then someone with 750+ score and 100% available credit on a student credit with a limit $500. … anyways, how bout finding a cosigner?

fyi, you can always just take the higher rate now and refi it later after you have build your credit up =)

You CAN refinance a car loan. The asset it yours to pay how you want. A bank or credit union will refinance your loan if you qualify.

OP what is the underlying reason your credit is so bad. Sub 600 is bad..and in this tight ass lending market your going to pay. Id recommend finding out why its bad and correcting the problem and once your credit report improves..2-3 months then pulling the trigger.

I just went through the process, and toyota financial was outrageous if I could remember correctly.

The T2 lower cutoff was 680, and that was for a 9% I believe. I think the T3 percentage rate was 11 or 12(disclaimer: I did a lot of truck shopping at the time… so it could have been T2-6% and T3-9%…kinda hazy). I already had an 08 civic financed with a credit union, so I went with them and got a 4.9% rate and they threw gap insurance in on the Tacoma for $80. IMO… if you are serious about a taco… 650+ is where you really want to be for a reasonable deal.
